Discovery Mining

Security and Reliability

Discovery Mining offers state-of-the-art security and reliability to protect client data from hardware failure or intentional attack.

Username/Password System

Discovery Mining employs secure username/password authentication to ensure that only authorized users have access to a particular document set. Usernames and passwords are managed by the client, giving them full control over access privileges. A single administrator password is assigned to the project lead, who can then assign usernames and passwords to other users. Permission levels further restrict the way users can interact with a given document collection: e.g., give basic access to search and sort to junior staff while keeping privileged documents in a folder that only the lead attorney can view.

Data Backup/System Redundancy

All client changes to the document database (document lists, user comments, etc.) are backed up daily. Redundant web and database servers allow for quick switchover in the event of any hardware malfunction

RAID-10 & Automatic Data Regeneration

All documents are stored on machines employing RAID-10 (mirrored) disk arrays to safeguard against single disk failures. Additionally, storage machines are installed in mirrored pairs, so that every document resides on two servers. In the unlikely event that one of these servers were to become unavailable, the document is simply retrieved from the other machine, ensuring a very high degree of availability for your data.

Firewall

Discovery Mining employs intrusion detection software and restrictive firewall policies to prevent unauthorized access from the Internet.

Data Encryption with Secure Socket Layer

All user sessions on the Discovery Mining web-site travel the Internet to the end-user via the SSL protocol, utilizing 128-bit encryption. This is the same level of encryption used for financial transactions on the Internet.

IP Locking

Discovery Mining uses IP-locking for document sets. For the security of your information, access to your documents is limited to only computers you specify.

Our Physical Network

In addition to the speed, reliability, and security which are inherent in our supercomputing Linux cluster architecture, Discovery Mining's systems are physically located in a state-of-the-art co-location facility. It has a completely redundant architecture with dual active-active routers/links/switches in all nodes. Our servers are housed in a secure environment that includes 24/7/365 video surveillance, and biometric hand scanners to control access. There is also a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) generator for backup power that is also monitored 24/7/365, and redundant air conditioning systems. The facility exceeds all seismic strength standards established for California hospitals.

Chain of Custody

Discovery Mining has created a chain-of-custody technology that ensures the highest level of integrity for media/data management. A chain of custody with complete integrity is a prerequisite for detecting and preventing data tampering. This ensures the integrity of Discovery Mining's data processing and guarantees the quality of your data management process.
